Most shutters in Canada are made of American
Yellow Poplar. Shutters in United States are
made of Red Alder & Basswood. (See
Material Samples)
The question is why do Canadian manufacturers import
American Yellow Poplar and U.S. manufacturers do not
normally use American Yellow Poplar.
The answer is that U.S. manufacturers are prepared
to use better quality wood, such as Basswood, which
has a much cleaner grain than Yellow Poplar and for
staining, we use Red Alder, which is compared to Maple
& Birch and when stained looks like Cherry.
American Yellow Poplar is the cheapest
of the three woods and is not a stain grade
quality. Ask anyone at a Box Store and they
will tell you “paint Poplar”.
We offer three grades of shutters- Economy, Standard
and Designer, which are described in more detail under
products. |
