In considering
the purchase of shutters, the question
you must ask yourself is "Why
wood shutters instead of vinyl shutters?"
First consideration is the price,
of course. Until now, vinyl products
have been much cheaper that wood,
because of raw material costs and
labour ... no painting, no staining,
no sanding, just a hollow, lightweight,
rattling product. Basically, no substance.
Wood shutters give you a different
feel to the touch, a different look
and sound. When you open wood shutters
you feel the substance of the shutter
and when closing, the sound of something
solid, just like closing a door on
a luxury car.
Wood shutters can be stained and painted many colorus; vinyl comes in shades of white. The pull rod on a vinyl shutter is made of many little snap together pieces, which are easily broken. Cheaper varieties of vinyl shutters are not re-enforced inside the frame for stiffness ... just hollow vinyl.
The test is to slam the shutters and listen to the difference in sound.
